I don’t like scary movies and truthfully, I’m not very good at deadlifting. So what was I thinking when I started Deadlift 4 Cancer three years ago?
In 2017, I finished chemo treatment in the spring and it wasn’t until the fall that I started feeling human once again. It was a perfect time to reconnect with friends through Deadlift 4 Cancer.
The world of competitive weight lifting can be really serious and stressful. I wanted to create an event with barely any rules, that anyone – no matter their skill level, ability, or age could join in, and that was a ton of fun. So we decided on a deadlift event that focused on the participant experience.
We started with smoke machines, gysers, music, drinks and of course – lifting. Wear whatever you want (but costumes encouraged), lift however much you want (beginners welcome), but most of all enjoy yourself.
I have never been so excited for Deadlift 4 Cancer as I am this year! I literally starting working on our event space in June! There are life size zombies, Saskatoon Audio/Visual will be providing the lighting, there is a post-apocalyptic tunnel for lifters to walk through. You are going to want to be there!
Of course there are LIVE events:
Saskatoon – Oct 19th
Humbodlt – Oct 20th
North Battleford – Oct 30th
Winnipeg – Nov 1st
Regina – Nov 2nd
If you can’t make it to a live event – compete ONLINE (we have exclusive online only prize!)
